VALTIER
Employee Card

Know what the Employee Card process needs, and when.

Most Employee Card problems are timing problems: a document that expired, an appointment booked too late, a notification missed after a change of employer.

Who this is for

  • 01Non-EU professionals with a Czech job offer, applying from abroad
  • 02Employees already in Czechia changing employer or position
  • 03HR and mobility teams moving several people at once
  • 04Families joining an Employee Card holder

What Valtier handles

  • Case review — which route applies, and what your specific situation changes about it
  • Document checklist mapped to your nationality, and the order to obtain them in
  • Coordination between you, your employer and the parties issuing documents
  • Appointment booking support at the embassy or the ministry
  • Preparation for the appointment: what is asked, what to bring, what is decided there
  • Notification and deadline tracking, including after a change of employer
  • Status tracking and a written record of what was submitted and when

What you will need to do

  • Secure the employment contract or binding job offer with your employer
  • Obtain personal documents from your home country, which usually takes longest
  • Attend the appointment and the biometrics in person
  • Tell us promptly if the job, address or family situation changes mid-process

How it runs

  1. 01

    Situation review

Where you are now, what the employer has in place and what the realistic sequence looks like from here.

  2. 02

    Document assembly

One checklist, ordered by lead time, so nothing that has to come from abroad is discovered late.

  3. 03

    Submission

Appointment coordination and preparation, then submission with a written record of what was filed.

  4. 04

    After the decision

Biometrics, card collection, address registration and the notification duties that continue afterwards.

Typical documents and requirements

Indicative only, and one of the areas where rules change most often. Always confirm against the Ministry of the Interior before acting.

  • Passport valid well beyond the intended stay
  • Employment contract or binding job offer for a position reported as vacant, where that applies
  • Proof of accommodation for the address you will register
  • Documents evidencing qualification for the role, where required
  • Criminal record extract, where requested by the authority
  • Certified Czech translations, and apostille or legalisation where applicable

What is not included

  • Legal representation in proceedings — Valtier is not a law firm
  • Any promise about the outcome or the processing time, both of which are the authority's
  • Finding you a job or negotiating your employment terms
  • Government fees, translations, apostilles and insurance premiums

Fees

Some services carry a fixed price. Others start from a base and depend on scope. Project work is quoted per project. You receive scope and fee in writing before any work begins.

Questions about this service

01Can I change employer on an Employee Card?

A change of employer or position is a regulated step with its own notification requirements and time limits, not something that happens automatically when you sign a new contract. The most common failure we see is treating the new contract as the end of the process rather than the trigger for it.

02What counts as proof of accommodation?

In practice the authority is looking for a document that ties a named person to a specific address with the property owner's agreement. A booking confirmation or an informal arrangement with a landlord is where applications most often stall, so we check the document before an appointment is booked, not after.

03We are moving several employees. Can that run as one engagement?

Yes, and it usually should. HR teams get one contact and one status view across all cases rather than coordinating each employee separately, with consistent document standards applied across the group.
